Follow-Up From Yesterday

I've received a lot of emails after my posting yesterday about Shelby. I feel that I want to follow that up with a word or two.

First, last year was the nightmare year for us. Shelby was selected by the girls in her class as a kind of sacrificial lamb. The acts of aggression ...

... Jeanene and I found a book that really helped us understand the dynamics behind last year's nightmare. This book opened our eyes. What I have seen affirms this woman's basic premise. Adolescent girls can be VERY aggressive, and their aggression is often hidden and carefully planned. Also, the schools are often completely unaware of the situation, at least institutionally unaware. The institution does not want to be aware because it takes so much work to set it right.

I remember when I first told everyone my name, I was worried that people might show up at our church because of Real Live Preacher. I don't know why I was worried about that, but I was. Actually, I have an idea of what made me nervous, but it's the kind of stuff you talk to a therapist about. Something about meeting your alter-ego, something about worlds colliding, as George said on Seinfeld.

Well, no one showed up for a long time. Then some college people came one Sunday. Then a few other people. Then Matt from Correction. There were a few people from a church in Austin, and a young couple from San Marcos came a few Sundays. Then a guy and his wife from Austin. Then some people from Christian Century. And finally, the woman who wrote this and a friend visited a few weeks ago. She's a very funny writer. I told her I knew a good mechanic in town.

Not really that many people, if you think about it. I mean, that's all of them. And you know what? It's not a big deal at all. People come to church for all sorts of reasons. I don't talk about Real Live Preacher at church unless someone asks, and it really doesn't come up that much, which is nice.

It's been almost a year since I came out of the closet, so to speak. I do not regret the decision at all.

A speed trick for playing older PC games with Virtual PC. I haven't seen this anywhere else, so this may help someone. I really enjoyed playing Monkey Island years ago, and I came across a Windows PC version of Monkey Island 3, which I had not played before. I know Virtual PC isn't ... [macosxhints]

I live in Las Vegas, the city of lights. There are big billboards up and down the strip all lit up, well recently one of the biggest casinos had a windows error and I thought the mac fans around the world would enjoy it. I posted it to my blog. www.brianstucki.com
